Water Reservoirs
Water Reservoirs
A water reservoir is an artificial structure used to store water for future use. Water reservoirs vary in shape and size depending on their use. They may be designed for indoor use or designed to be placed outdoors. Most of the indoor reservoir is in most cases relatively smaller compared to the outdoor reservoirs. Therefore, the outdoor reservoirs have a larger storage capacity compared to the indoor reservoirs.
The design considerations for these two varieties of reservoirs take into consideration the environment in which these reservoirs are to be placed in. Outdoor reservoirs are often subject to hostile weather conditions as they are often exposed to weather conditions such as extreme heat and rain. As such, the material used in the manufacture of such types of reservoirs needs to be strong and resistant to such weather conditions.
Rust resistant material such as steel and strong plastic is a common material used in the manufacture of these reservoirs. It is important for the material to be corrosion resistant because most of the users prefer structures that are durable and will be a value for their money.
Indoor water reservoirs on the other hand, require a relatively weaker material compared to the outdoor reservoirs. This is mostly because they are not in most cases exposed to hostile weather conditions. These reservoirs are often placed in far places where there is often very little interference. These reservoirs, however, need to be designed and constructed to prevent rodents such as rats that may be living in the house from destroying the reservoirs.
Ceramics and thick plastic are among the common materials used in the manufacture of such reservoirs. The reservoirs also need to be a hundred per cent water tight because any leakage from the reservoirs may seep into the walls of a house and subsequently destroy the house.
Water reservoirs come in many shapes and designs. The most common are the cylindrical and cuboid reservoirs. The choice for the shape of the reservoir to take largely depends on the preference and the storage space of the user. The cylindrical reservoirs basically cover more space compared to the rectangular water reservoirs. Therefore, users who want to make more economical use of their space would prefer the cylindrical reservoirs.
The rectangular shaped reservoirs on the other hand, are often believed to have a larger capacity compared to the other variety. Users who want more storage space would often prefer this type of reservoirs. Rectangular reservoirs are, however, often difficult to install and maintain. It is for this reason that they may not be very common.
Most water reservoirs come with a lid to help keep the water inside clean and safe from intruders such as animals who may want to drink or contaminate the water. It is important to keep the water in these reservoirs clean because humans require clean water so as to keep healthy. Reservoirs with lids are often relatively more expensive compared to the water reservoirs without lids. It is, however, a worthy investment to have a reservoir with a lid.
